U.S. General in Iraq; Baghdad Won’t Be Secure Until Late Spring

A US General directing a major part of securing Baghdad has said that it will take until late spring for Baghdad to be secured, and that an early American withdrawal would clear the way for “the enemy to come back” to areas now being cleared of insurgents.

We’ve been told the insurgents have come to Baghdad to fight America there. “We’re fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them here.” Using that same argument then, if America leaves Iraq instead of sticking around through the spring to see if Bagdad can be controlled through multiple troop surges, then the insurgents should theoretically leave as well.

But remember, we’re fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them here, yet we’re told al-Qaida is here and more cells are on their way.

This plan is a failure and our men and women are dying for a nation that doesn’t want them there.
