Russian President Vladimir Putin has made an incredibly wild eyed bid to grab control of a vast chunk of the Arctic, in part so that he can tap its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth. Then there is the military strategy that we’ve so come to hate seeing Putin pull off while George Bush picks his nose and blames the Senate for not passing the Immigration Reform Bill.

If Putin and Russia wind up with control of the Arctic’s North Pole, they very simply can install missile systems there that Bush’s missile defense plan in Europe would have no shot of shooting down. This move offers Russia more economic boom and military clout than we’ve ever seen from it before. The question is, can Russia be stopped?
