Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff: Afraid of Britain, Bin Laden, and The American Boogie Man
Homeland Security Chief scaremonger Michael Chertoff has sounded off on what he believes is America’s biggest vulnerability to terrorism. This weakness, Chertoff believes, is the American public.
“The great weapon they have is persistence and patience, and the one weakness that we have is the tendency to lose patience and become complacent…
It strikes me as hard to accept that anybody would believe the threat is over. There is nothing these terrorists are doing or saying that could lead a reasonable person to believe that they have somehow lost interest. Our biggest challenge is making sure we do not drop our guard because time passes.”
Chertoff believes that although it has been more than six years since al Qaida launched the Sept. 11 attacks, we’re not out of danger because that’s how long it took to plan the 911 attacks.
Chertoff, using deductive reasoning, the likes of which no one but Sherlock Holmes or Matlock could compare with, further suggests that this means the U.S. may be closing in on another spectacular attempt by Osama bin Laden to topple the U.S. economy.
Please note, Chertoff makes it a point to state what keeps him up at night is homegrown terrorism. This is typical slight of hand trickery. We’re afraid of Osama Bin Laden, it took them 6 years to plan the attack… so we’re nervous, but not afraid of Bin Laden, but rather, homegrown terrorists.
“If you’re asking me what keeps me up at night or what I most worry about — in the short term, obviously, you worry about homegrown terrorists or somebody coming in with an explosive device or the kind of act of violence or terror that we’ve actually seen occasionally carried out in this country by people who are simply nuts or like a Timothy McVeigh.
It’s nice to see that Chertoff is actually concerned with Bin Laden in “the long run.”
“But in the longer run, in terms of something that would really be earth-shattering, the kinds of things I’m worried about are a nuclear or a dirty bomb attack or a nuclear or biological attack. Now I don’t believe that the capability to do that is around the corner.”
Well, if the capability to do that isn’t right around the corner, then why was it even mentioned that it took al Qaida this long to plan 911 and so we’re closing in on being hit again? As I mentioned before… this was to whip up fear and then to transfer that fear to “home grown terrorists” and as such, it is meant to call on Americans to give up their rights in exchange for safety, not even from Bin Laden, but from ourselves.
CIA Director Michael Hayden told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence last week that al Qaida will continue trying to “acquire chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials, and would not hesitate to use them in attacks.”
Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell said at that same hearing that “al-Qaida remains the pre-eminent threat against the United States.”
Don’t tell Michael Chertoff that. He’s more worried about an attack coming from Joe Smith or Harry Jones.
Europe is at the top of the list of possible launch points for an attack against the U.S.
“One of the things we’ve become concerned about lately is the possibility of Europe becoming a platform for a threat against the United States,” Chertoff told the British Broadcasting Company in mid-January.
“Just look at what’s happened in the last year. We had the attacks in Britain. We had the disrupted plot in Germany. We had the arrests in Spain,” Chertoff said. “Clearly terrorists and militants are able to operate within Europe.”
Amazingly Chertoff discredits the actual threat of terror here in the United States by failing to mention the failed attempt to blow up JFK airport last summer.
Americans are distanced from the London car bombings, but in typical fashion, there never was any threat from exploding cars as the gas tanks in the cars would have ruptured before exploding. Remember seeing a terrorist pouring gasline on himself and then setting himself on fire… BIG THREAT AGAINST AMERICA THERE!
As I’ve noted before.. none of the cars exploded and at least one car didn’t detonate because one of the terrorist doctors involved used ”medical syringe” was used in the detonation mechanism and as such, it malfunctioned.
There was no real threat and in reality, the terrorists were laughable at best.
What about the JFK non event. We were told it was “chilling” and could have killed an incalculable number of Americans, yet experts again debunked the threat by explaining the safety valves within the fuel lines that would have instantly cut off any “fire” rising up the fuel lines.
Chertoff of course, wants to focus on Europe, but in doing so he reveals that not even Homeland Security took the JFK Bomb Plot seriously.
So why is Chertoff out there fearmongering on 2/11/08?
The special travel relationship between the U.S. and Europe is worrisome for Chertoff.
“We have a visa waiver program with respect to Europe that allows people to come without getting visas. There’s an obvious concern that people might seize that as they tried in August 2006 to use Europe as a platform to attack us.”
“Terrorist attacks, which are most likely from an organized al Qaida threat, would require the largest protective investment.”- Investment you say? Hmmmm
“I don’t believe that the capability to do that is around the corner, but I also think that the preparations that we need to have in place to deal with this threat are going to take a while to build, and we’re building them as we speak.
Chertoff believes American’s need to ask themselves, “Will the nation remain focused enough to finish it?”
“We’re moving properly and efficiently, but it only works if we don’t lose interest in it. If we decide that it’s no longer a concern, then we’re going to be putting ourselves in danger.”
I ask you to re-read that last paragraph. “If you aren’t willing to give up your rights, your privacy, and clearly your money to pay for these costly advances in Big Brother technology, then you will be to blame when you and your family are in danger, not from Osama Bin Laden, but from the American Boogie Man.
If this is not what Chertoff is saying then why isn’t he off threatning Bin Laden? Wouldn’t it make sense to try to scare those that would attack us into thinking twice about doing so, rather than trying to scare the American people into preparing for attacks… that Chertoff himself doesn’t even believe are right around the corner. And though not around the corner, we are somehow on the brink of these attacks, not to be launched by Osama Bin Laden but by a traitor, a home grown Osama Smith Or John Bin Laden.
Read through the confussion and the bait and switch antics. America used to be a country of “guts” when we told the enemy… If you hurt so much as one American, you will cease to exist. Instead our leaders are threatening us into giving them more and more and more power… not power over Bin Laden, but power to control, manipulate, and oppress, We the people!
